The story begins when sixth grader Susan is returning from spring break. Wanting to be an actress when she grows up, she is excited for the upcoming class play. But when she returns, she find a her teacher is missing. In her place is a strange, new substitute teacher. And he cancels the class play. This makes Susan furious until she is blindsided by the unreal discovery that he is an alien from another planet. Worse yet, he is evaluating each student and plans on kidnapping five of them at the end of the week to take to his home world.

Susan just can’t let this happen. She knows that her parents or other adults won’t believe her without any proof. So she confides in the class nerd. He is a quiet boy who loves reading science fiction. Even he doesn’t believe her at first. But when they sneak into the substitute teacher’s house and find their old teacher caught in suspended animation, there is no doubt. Together, they team up with all of the kids in the class to reveal the truth to all of their parents.

I really enjoyed this fun, easy read. It is a unique, imaginative story that will make young readers look extra closely at their teachers for signs they are an alien. I especially loved how the kids all worked together to outsmart the alien through the distrust of their parents.

I highly recommend this book. Especially for kids with a substitute teacher.
